Building a VRS Platform
How we build a VRS platform
Since the launch of Canada VRS, you’ve likely heard the term “Canada VRS Platform” several times. This platform is the backbone that connects Deaf callers, interpreters, and hearing callers, making VRS possible.
If you’re curious about how this connection works, you can check out a visual representation on our website: Canada VRS Connection.
But what exactly is the VRS platform, and what goes into building it?
Building a VRS platform isn’t as simple as pulling something “out of the box.” It’s more like constructing with Lego blocks—but on a much grander scale, requiring a clear vision and a carefully crafted blueprint.
When we develop a VRS platform, we make several critical decisions. From selecting the phone system to choosing the right databases, video, and audio components, it is like having a vast assortment of Lego blocks at our disposal. Our blueprint guides us in choosing and assembling these blocks to ensure everything works seamlessly.
Once we select a block, we must commit to it. This is why having a clear blueprint and thoughtful design is so essential—they help us make informed decisions that result in a robust and reliable platform.
Sometimes, we need to replace a block if it’s not performing well or if a better option comes along. A strong decision allows us to swap out blocks easily, but if the block is deeply embedded in the structure, it can become challenging, requiring the disassembly of other pieces to access it. This is when the strength of the original design becomes truly important.
Think of it this way: building a VRS platform is not like assembling a small house with just 50 pieces; it’s like constructing a 50-story skyscraper with 10,000 pieces. There are countless elements to consider, and they all need to work together harmoniously.
Selecting the right Lego blocks and ensuring they fit together perfectly is a significant responsibility. However, with a well-planned blueprint and solid design, we can build a powerful, reliable, and adaptable VRS platform that serves our community daily.
At CAV, our role is to oversee the platform provider, ensuring that high-quality standards are consistently met. This includes rigorous quality assurance, adherence to project deadlines, and continuous identification of areas for improvement. By doing so, we ensure that the Canada VRS platform not only meets today’s needs but also evolves to meet the challenges of tomorrow, empowering our community with reliable, seamless communication every day.
