Video Interpreters and Canada VRS
Video Interpreters are at the heart of every VRS call.
Video interpreters or VIs are specially trained sign language interpreting professionals who interpret telephone calls for Canadians who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired.

Debra
Hello, my name is Debra. I joined Canada VRS 1 year and 7 months ago. Since then, VRS interpreting across Canada has been TOPS, and the reason is meeting so many new Deaf Canadians! That’s awesome! Perfect! Thank you, cheers!
Shelby
Hello! My name is Shelby. I’ve been working at CAN VRS for about five months, almost six. I enjoy working in VRS because it gives me the opportunity to connect with Deaf individuals and ASL interpreters all across Canada. It’s neat being able to work with people from BC all the way to the East Coast! Also, we get to interpret a variety of calls, which is another reason I love CAN VRS!
Colleen
Hi, my name is Colleen. I have been working as a video interpreter (or VI) for 5 years now. I was interested in working in this setting because I already had 20 years of experience as a community interpreter and I recognized that Video Relay Service is very important and valuable. I felt my previous experience would be an excellent foundation for VI work.
My greatest reward as a VI is being a channel for enabling the Deaf community to gain access to services via telecommunications by overcoming systematic barriers. The community can access 911, government services, banks, health care, and other important services as well as keep in touch with loved ones. It has been my honour and privilege, and I thank you. I thoroughly enjoy working with Deaf Canadians from coast to coast.
